Throughout this semester we have covered many ways to represent your business/company through social media sites. With the technology advancements social media marketing is fast-growing and very popular.
BLOGGER- Blogging is a very popular way to inform customers about your business and keep them up to date with new products. Blogger is also a very good way to post a short summary about the background of your company and/or your personal background. During class we used it to introduce our business, post a review/summary of our podcast and post a blog about how to deal with bad business reviews. Learning how to use this type of social media was very useful, as I had never blogged before! If I was using blogger for an actual business I would start be explaining the history of the business and the owner/inventor. Then use it weekly to inform customers of upcoming events, special deals and awesome products!
TWITTER- Twitter is probably the second most popular social media site behind Facebook. Twitter is very easy to use, and very easy to gain publicity. Throughout the semester we used twitter to promote our blog, Facebook and podcasts. It was also fun to follow other classmates and help retweet and promote their business's. Using twitter was a very cool experience, it helped me "keep tabs" on the competition and help promote other students business's. The only con I can think of when it comes to twitter is the small amount of characters you can use. Other than that, Twitter is a great way to spread the word about your business. If I was using Twitter for a new business I would use it to follow, and gather information on competitor companies. I would use it to promote new products and send links to our website, and our other social media networks. Twitter can be very useful, but be careful... do no overload people twitter feed!
FACEBOOK- Facebook is the most common social media platform. Using Facebook we shared photos, stories and links to our blogs, twitter accounts and podcasts. Using this social media was very fun, simple and I would say the most reliable out of all. Facebook is quick, easy and by far the most popular out of all. It would be the easiest to get the word out about your new business/company. If this was my real business I would create a Facebook to update our customers of new products, pictures of those products and I would post a status every time we had a sale going on or special items on clearance!
HOOTSUITE- Hootsuite was a very useful social media site, but also the most difficult to use. During class we connected our twitter, Facebook and blog to Hootsuite which enables you to plan ahead and set times for which you want each site to send a posting, or tweet. Although Hootsuite can be very helpful when not trying to drown your followers or customers, I found it very confusing and tough to follow. If I was to use Hootsuite for a real-life job I would set a week of tweets, Facebook posts and blogger updates all at the beginning of the week. It would be a reliable tool when it came to NOT overflowing your customers Facebook's or Twitter feeds.
PINTEREST- Out of all of the social media's we used, it is safe to say Pinterest is the easiest. When used in class we created four boards and added "pins" to them. We did this to keep our followers updated on new products, pictures and in my case, dream spots around the globe to go wakeboarding. Using this site was a very pleasurable experience, it was fast, easy and simple. I can see this site being a very good way to communicate with visual customers, supporters and followers. If I was working for a real wakeboarding company I would use Pinterest to post pictures of new products, new apparel or pictures of events we have held. It is a nice way to learn about products, or the company without having to read articles or lengthy reviews.
NICHE SITES- When it comes to niche social websites it truly depends what your business is, to know if it is a reliable marketing source. If your company is something of a wide variety, such a beer-brewing you will have beer luck with niche sites rather than someone who is looking for a wakeboarding niche site. For class I was able to find a very cool website that was for all extreme-sport athletes to get together and talk on discussion boards and share pictures, tips and tricks. I found this site to be very cool. If I was a business owner I am not sure I would use niche sites very often, unless its simply to advertise. These sites are usually small and do not have a lot of traffic.
PODCASTS- Podcasts are simply a short radio or audio snippet which is usually used to advertise your business or product. We used a podcast to quickly explain our company, what we do and what we represent. I think podcasts are slightly overrated due to the fact I do not believe you reach many people when you do podcast. If I were to somehow use a podcast in a real-life business situation I wouldn't do my OWN podcast, I would find a podcast that is directed toward my target market and simply put a short commercial or ad on that podcast. Overall my experience using podcast was not very good.
VINES & VIDEOS- Vine is a very popular and up-and coming social media application. This allows you do post 6 second videos. That is the only negative... you only get 6 seconds. We used vine to do a giveaway which was very fun. Overall my experience was very good with vine. I have used this app in the past so it came easy to me. As of now vine is used for mostly funny and prank videos... If I was running my own business I am not sure that I would use this media to promote my business and or products.
RATINGS & REVIEW SITES- In class we had to see how we would deal with a bad report on a social media site about our business. Sites that take ratings such as "Yelp" are very beneficial to companies. This is a place where they can see reviews, questions and concerns about their business. I would find this very helpful as a business owner. My experience using these sites are very good, and very often. I check the reviews for the golf course I work at in the summer. If I was a business owner in real life I would check these sites regularly, and if I found a bad review I would try to contact that person and see if I could make their experience more enjoyable next time.
In conclusion I think all of the social media platforms would be useful for certain business's. But if I had a real life job for Cool Dude Wakeboards I believe that Facebook, Twitter, and a Podcast advertisement would be most helpful in spreading the word about my new business. Facebook because it is the most used site, easy to post pictures. Twitter because it is easy to follow competitors and make sure we are ahead or right on the heels of the wakeboarding world. I also think it would be very helpful to do a radio ad in the southern states where wakeboarding is a year-round sport. It is very easy to reach a mass amount of people on the radio.

Wakeboarding Camps!
Lately we have been tweeting a lot about some camps you can attend to dial in your tricks and jumps. After we did some research we found one camp that we really liked so we would like to highlight it this week in our blog! Only one problem with this camp is that you will have to wait until next summer... this nationally recognized camp in located in WISCONSIN!
The Gordy Bubolz Wakeboarding Camp is located in Fremont Wisconsin. This will be their 19th season in the wakeboarding camp business. They are the nations premier all-inclusive camp which usually run 6 days and 5 nights. There are two main cabins on the property, both with a log cabin finish. Campers will wake up at 7:30 each morning where they are served home-cooked breakfast before heading out out to the waters. During the morning runs each camper will get the chance to take two runs behind Gordy's brand new wakeboarding boat. After the morning runs each day will be filled with a fun event including learning new tricks on the trampoline and cliff jumping! Each meal is made right there at the camp by Gordys wife and other camp leaders. All of the campers rave about the wonderful home-cooked meals!
Check out Gordys website here: http://www.wakeboardingcamp.com/index.html#prettyPhoto

Wakeboarding Social Networks!
When asked to find social networking sites for class I truly thought I would struggle finding them. To my surprise I was able to find them in no time! The bigger of the two I found was http://www.hookit.com/ This site is an awesome social media networking app which you can download via phone or tablet. Hookit is not only for wakeboarders, it is for all action sports athletes. I do not have the app downloaded quiet yet so i searched around to find reviews for hookit.
After reading a ton of reviews most of the feedback is positive! I see that hookit sends out tons of coupons to its cosumers, including 25% off GoPro and 40% off at Hayes. When providing coupons to your users you are almost guaranteed to see them again. In better cases they would refer you to their friends. Hookit is an awesome site to connect, compare tips and tricks! Check it out today!

Cold Water Ahead!
With fall season straight ahead, and the water getting colder and colder its finally wetsuit season! Many boarders do not wear wetsuits during the summer due to the high temperatures but during the later boarding months I would strongly recommend buying a flotation, and insulated wetsuit. Where do you buy wetsuits? Many online wakeboarding stores have a decent selection but I highly recommend Evo.com They have a large selection of almost 30 wetsuits for guys and over 20 for women. Not interested in the full suit? They carry half suits and boots or even hoods to keep your head warm! Check out the full selection here!
http://www.evo.com/shop/wake/wetsuits.aspx?esvt=335675-GOUSe&esvq=wakeboarding%20wetsuits&esvadt=999999-6270725-4106344-1&esvcrea=25767803363&esvplace=&esvaid=30559&gclid=CPqSqbfunLoCFUJqMgod1GIAIQ
People often ask me which one is the best? The answer is not the same for everyone as each and every wetsuit has different features and styles. For the average seasonal wakeboarder looking for a good wetsuit I would recommend the O'Neil 3/2 Hammer suit. This suit has good style and the boarder has complete mobility when wearing it. Seamless design and a double superseal neck to keep cold water out! Check it out here!

WINTER WAKEBOARDING, YOU'VE GOT TO BE CRAZY!
In this area we are very unfortunate to have the winter season (according to all wakeboarders). Many people looking at wakeboarders from the outside in, think that we are crazy. Why? That is a very good question...But these people are taking crazy to new levels. Check out these boarding giving it all for one last board session in the frigid cold of a UK winter! http://throwitdown.com/video/winter-wakeboarding.html
Crazy huh? Well a couple of the Redbull boarders kicked it up a notch and did the same thing in the middle of a US winter (beware: viewing these pictures may cause hypothermia) http://www.wakeworld.com/news/feature/winter-wakeboard-winchfest-01-08-10-15-21-42-416.html
I give you all permission to call those folks crazy!

Privacy on Facebook
When it comes to privacy on facebook, most profiles have different settings. Some allow EVERY person on facebook to see your posts and photos. Others allow only your friends to see posts and photos. It was very intresting to see what Laurie was able to discover via facebook about the classmates who didnt have privacy up to code :)
These days many jobs will look on facebook before hiring a person for a professional job. This is very important to have your privacy setting tight to only allow your friends to see your photos and posts. If you are "tagged" in a innaproprate photo it is YOUR job to "untag" yourself so your friends cannot view that photo.
After viewing the powerpoint I believe my privacy setting were pretty good. As far as I know Laurie was unable to access my profile or view my photos. One this I will do is go through my photos and delete any of them as seem innaproperate for a professional setting.
TWITTER!
Twitter is an online micro blogging website which allows you to post a message in 140 characters or less. Many businesses use twitter to follow competitors and fellow business-people in the same business. I have many friends that use twitter for business and they all agree, right now twitter is the most useful social media site for networking ans growing your business.
CONS OF USING TWITTER:
-Twitter is very busy, if you are not a major company it may be hard to get noticed.
-Twitter is not the best to share visuals. It seems to be lacking when it comes to picture and video sharing.
-You only get 140 characters to voice your opinion. For some people that is not enough room!
PROS OF USING TWITTER:
-Twitter is huge! This can also be a con but if you tweet (and have many followers) your tweet will get noticed by many people.
-FOLLOWERS. Every follower you have will see every tweet. This will also help spread the word about your business.
Engage- This type of tweet encourages you to ask questions or a bold statement to draw in followers.
Ex- What is your wakeboard of choice and why?
Entertain- A tweet to entertain or something interesting to grab attention.
Ex- http://funnyjokesriddles.weebly.com/wakeboarding-xs.html
Inform- Tells your followers about an upcoming date or event.
Ex- Release of our 2014 wakeboards coming in January 2014!
Mention- A mention tweet will include "@" which will tag a follower so they are able to view your tweet. Also used to reply to someones tweet.
Ex- @CDwakeboards I just bought one of your new boards and could not be happier! #thanks
